About us

The old has embraced the new in Stockholm's Old Town since time immemorial. You can almost feel the wings of history gliding over the medieval alleyways, cobblestones and nooks and crannies, before bringing the candles on your table flickering to life.

Countless owners and businesses have passed through the building since it was first mentioned in the record books, half a millennium ago. But to save time and space, we'll jump straight to 1999, when the fashionable clothes store Agaton became a restaurant and our own story starts. For 20 years, the very best of Sweden has embraced the very best of Italy at this address.

A little bit of Old Town history

A stroll through Stockholm's Old Town reveals numerous stories from the hidden corners of history. Every building and alleyway carries legacies and traditions from the City Between the Bridges, as Stockholm was originally called. In 1521 a tumbledown old stone barn stood on the site.

When alderman Petter Grönberg bought the building in 1617 it was extremely dilapidated and he renovated it completely. After several more changes of owner the building came into the ownership of a merchant by the name of Wallin in 1860. He installed the latest fashion - large display windows with cast-iron frames on the ground floor and the first floor.

In 1922 the building was bought by the Robert Ditzinger company and in 1924 they began a ten-year long reconstruction. Ditzingers stayed put until 1968 when Kapp-Ahl took over most of the company's premises. In the Eighties the whole building was converted to office space. Around this time a gentlemen's outfitters called Agaton opened up on the ground floor. After 18 years as a classic gentlemen's outfitters the premises became the current restaurant with the same name.
